Building Community Resilience After Conflict
Our team's recent visit to conflict-affected communities revealed inspiring stories of resilience and recovery.
In the aftermath of conflict, communities face the monumental task of rebuilding — not just physical infrastructure, but social fabric, economic systems, and individual lives.
The Context
Recent conflicts in parts of North-Central Nigeria have displaced thousands of families, disrupted livelihoods, and deepened poverty. Women and children are disproportionately affected, often losing not just their homes but their means of survival.
Our Intervention
AWAYAI's Community Resilience Program takes a holistic approach:
Stories of Hope
In one community we visited, women who had lost everything in the conflict have come together to form a cooperative farming group. With support from AWAYAI, they now cultivate 50 hectares of land, feeding their families and selling produce at local markets.
"Before the conflict, we didn't know our neighbors," says Amina, a cooperative leader. "Now we work together, support each other, and we are stronger than ever."
